"This move marks a new chapter in Atria's rich history. From Utrecht, we have the opportunity to build on 90 years of knowledge, collections and expertise."
Relocation and significance
The archive and library, which attract researchers and journalists from all over the country (and abroad), will remain accessible and become even more accessible after the move. Collaborations with social and academic partners will also have a firm foundation in Utrecht. At the new location, Atria will continue to work to strengthen the position of women in all their diversity by collecting, developing and sharing reliable knowledge on gender equality and emancipation.
90 years of history
Atria's roots are in Amsterdam, where the International Archive for the Women's Movement was founded in 1935. In 2013 the organisation merged with E-Quality, an organisation with origins in The Hague, to form what is now Atria. Since then, Atria has combined scientific-based knowledge with its internationally renowned collection in the field of women's and gender history.
Jubilee year 2026
From December 2025 and throughout 2026, Atria's 90th anniversary will be celebrated with a stimulating programme that looks back on its rich history and looks ahead to its future.
