Atria focuses on topics that have been central to women's movements and struggles for equality over the past century, We connect these historical insights with new scholarly insights in the field of feminism and gender, and with social developments of today.

Our research agenda covers broad themes such as gender-based violence, economic inequality, representation, self-determination, and feminism.

We collect, analyse and interpret research data and statistics, and interpret social developments from a gender and intersectional perspective. We pay attention to (unconscious) gender stereotypes and norms, unequal power relations and various forms of inclusion and exclusion. In all our work, the perspective of women, in all their diversity, is central.

Research methods

Our scientific researchers deploy a variety of qualitative and quantitative research methods. We have knowledge and experience in the areas of:

  • Survey research

  • In-depth interviews

  • Oral history

  • Literature study

  • Ethnographic research

  • Monitoring and (process) evaluation

  • Theoretical underpinning of intervention development

  • (Inter)national and historical comparative research

Research results

Atria translates research results into concrete advice and recommendations for policymakers, professionals and civil society organisations. This is how we ensure that scientific insights contribute directly to better decisions and policy. We share our results in various forms: (scientific) publications, reports, lectures, conferences, workshops, fact sheets and policy briefs.

Quality, integrity and privacy
We work according to the guidelines of the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) and the Dutch Code of Conduct on Scientific Integrity. We also follow the guidelines of the General Data Protection Regulation (AVG).

Partners

We conduct independent research, both commissioned and funded by external parties, such as municipalities, ministries, the European Union, and other government agencies. We also work closely with universities and participate in national and international consortia, combining expertise and knowledge to deliver impactful and reliable research results.
