Wikipedia writing workshop on female animation filmmakers

In this workshop by Atria, Eye and Kaboom, you will literally write history. After an introduction about female animation filmmakers and their underrepresentation, you will get to work on Wikipedia. The reason for this writing afternoon is the launch at the Kaboom Animation Festival of the new retrospective cycleYass Queen!to honour pioneering women in animation.

Programme
  • 12.30 - 13.00: Walk-in

  • 13.00: Welcome
    Introduction on female animation filmmakers and their underrepresentation by animation historian Mette Peters (in English).

  • 13.30 - 16.00: Learn how to co-write the world's largest internet encyclopaedia under the guidance of experienced Wikipedia editors.
    We'll give you names of female animation authors and sources you can get started with, but of course you may also browse Eye's (digital) collection yourself.

Practical

Date and time: 20 March 2026, 12.30pm - 4pm.
Location: Eye Study at Eye Collection Centre, Asterweg 26, Amsterdam. Nb this is a different location to Eye Filmmuseum.
Bring your own: Laptop.

The meeting is open to both beginning and experienced Wikipedia editors. Participation is free, but registration is required.

An international festival for audiences and professionals alike, Kaboom Animation Festival showcases the breadth and versatility of animation in various film competitions and themed programmes, ranging from pioneering experimental arthouse films to colourful stories for families and children. This year, Kaboom launches the new retrospective cycle Yass Queen! to honour pioneering women in animation. Four female animation masters have been selected for this first edition: Monique Renault, Florence Mihailhe, Joanna Quinn and Réka Bucsi.
The festival will be held from 13 - 22 March 2026, in Utrecht, Amsterdam and online. More information about the Kaboom Animation Festival and the programme.

Wikipedia writing afternoons are organised monthly by Atria and and IHLIA LGBTI Heritage in collaboration with Wikimedia Netherlands.
